There were tithes, offerings, firstfruits, and appointed times. Giving was tied to the Temple system and the Levitical priesthood. It was measured, regulated, and commanded. The Law told people what to give and when to give it.

But when we step into the NT, something powerful changes.

Jesus did not come to reinforce rituals; He came to reveal the heart. Giving moves from law to love, from obligation to willingness, from percentage to purpose.

The New Covenant does not abolish generosity—it deepens it.
Paul says in 2 Corinthians 9:7, “Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

Notice this: no compulsion, no threat, no ritual pressure—only a heart response to grace.

In Acts 2, the believers sold possessions and shared with one another—not because Moses commanded them, but because love constrained them.

Grace produced generosity. When grace touches the heart, the hand opens naturally.

The OT asks, “How much must I give?”
The NT asks, “How much love has God shown me?”

Jesus Himself is the model of NT giving: “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor.” (2 Cor 8:9). He didn’t give by rule; He gave by sacrifice.

So today, God is not after your money—He is after your heart. When the heart is yielded, generosity becomes a lifestyle, not a ritual.

Declaration

I give by grace and not by law.
I give freely and not fearfully.
I give as a response to what Christ has done for me.
My generosity reflects my gratitude.in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Makaya’s School of Prophetic Ministry

Rev.
