“When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.” 1 Corinth 13:11
Beloved, growth in Christ is not automatic—it is intentional.
Salvation is the beginning, but maturity is the journey. The Apostle Paul reminds us that there comes a point where we must put away childish things.
1. Childish Speech → Mature Words
A child speaks without restraint, but a mature believer speaks with wisdom.
As believers, our words must edify, not destroy. Gossip, complaints, and careless speech are signs of spiritual infancy. Maturity speaks life, truth, and grace.
Lesson: Let your tongue reflect Christ, not your emotions.
2. Childish Understanding → Renewed Mind
A child understands only what is before them, but maturity seeks deeper truth.
Many believers remain shallow—easily offended, easily shaken—because they have not grown in understanding.
The call is to renew your mind through the Word. See situations through God’s perspective, not feelings.
Lesson: Grow in revelation in Christ not just information.
3. Childish Thinking → Kingdom Mindset
A child thinks selfishly—“What about me?” But a mature believer thinks Kingdom first. Spiritual maturity shifts you from self-centered living to purpose-driven living. You begin to ask:
What glorifies God?
What advances His Kingdom?
How can I serve others?
Lesson: Maturity is seen in responsibility and sacrifice.
Putting away childish things means:
Letting go of spiritual immaturity
Taking
responsibility for your growth
Reflecting Christ in character and conduct
God is not calling you to remain a spiritual child—He is calling you to grow up into Christ.
