A Step Between Life and Death

A Step Between Life and Death

1 Samuel 20:3 David makes a profound statement to Jonathan saying:

Then David took an oath again, and said, “Your father certainly knows that I have found favor in your eyes, and he has said, ‘Do not let Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved.’ But truly, as the Lord lives and as your soul lives, there is but a step between me and death.”

David said this while fleeing from Saul who was determined to kill him. David understood that human life can hang by a thread. One moment everything looks normal, and the next moment death can appear. Yet David did not surrender to fear; instead, he trusted God.

Spiritually, this reveals a powerful truth: every human life stands between two realms — life and death.

The enemy constantly tries to push people toward destruction, but God continually pulls His people toward life.

David knew something deeper: although death was only a step away, God’s presence was closer than death.

That is why in another place he declared, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.”

The message is clear:
Sometimes destiny is pursued while death is chasing. David was anointed to be king, yet he lived many days between life and death.

The anointing did not remove danger, but God’s preservation kept him alive until destiny was fulfilled.

Through Jesus Christ, this revelation becomes even clearer: death may be near, but life in God is stronger than death.

Prophetic declaration:

Even if it feels like there is only a step between you and destruction, God will preserve you until your destiny is complete. In Jesus name. Amen
