And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?” Luke 24:32
When Jesus taught the two disciples the scriptures, they both had a common experience. Their hearts burned within them while Jesus taught them the scriptures.
God’s word revealed to us burns in our hearts. That is, God’s word stirs up our hearts through Christ’s presence and truth.
We become spiritually sensitive and alive when God’s word is exposed to us.
God’s word in us stirs our hearts with energy and passion for obedience.
The word of God burned in Jeremiah’s heart, and he had no option but to obey it (Jer 20:9).
When our hearts are set on fire by the word of God, we become passionate and obedient to it. We have energy and strength to do what it says.
While a cold heart would be insensitive to God’s word, a heart that is on fire would easily obey God’s word.
May our hearts be on fire for the Lord. Shalom.
Prayer: Pray that the word of God would burn within your heart to obey it.
